Mia Clayton ‘Fleeting and Forever’

2 October - 4 October

"The past follows us
like a wave breaks on the shore.
fleeting and forever."

fleeting and forever is a photographic exploration of transience and memory in the shifting Irish landscape. Created during the artist’s residency at the Burren College of Art (Co. Clare, Ireland) in February 2025, the series blurs the line between permanence and impermanence through analogue photographic techniques and experimental film processes. Drawing on the natural forces of the Atlantic coast, the Burren, and surrounding area, Clayton’s work reflects on the emotional and physical imprints of place. Long exposures, saltwater-developed film, and deconstructed Polaroids come together to create an immersive reflection in collaboration with the land itself. In a world that demands clarity and definition, fleeting and forever embraces the in-between - the moment just before something disappears, the weight of time, the energy of what remains. The exhibition invites viewers into a liminal space where the land is not simply observed but felt; simultaneously fleeting and forever.

Mia Clayton is an Australian emerging photographic artist currently based in the United Kingdom. Her practice explores the intersections of landscape, memory, and analogue experimentation. Mia holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Photography) at the Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University. Her work has been exhibited in group shows across Australia and internationally including She, The Burren (Ireland, 2025), Mosaic Memories (Brisbane, 2024) and Undergrowth (Brisbane 2024).
