Artichoke ARI ‘Waste to Taste’

9 December - 13 December

Artichoke ARI will energise the terrace and exhibition space of Land Street gallery this Dec 9th - 13th, with a series of workshops, performances and poetic conversation starters tied into the themes of food, waste, art and ecology.

A collective initiative, Artichoke ARI is fueled by 'enzymes' - artist members acting to digest (analyse and absorb) the emerging art scene in Meanjin. The group aims to boost the uptake of artful nutrition through arteries (outlets) of poetic language use and experimentation.
All audiences are welcomed to engage with the residency activations which transform artists' offcuts into a flavour that is characteristic of this stewing initiative:

- Enriched Rope WORKSHOP (across open days)
Take a seat at the banquet of offcuts and create freely, attaching your creations to the textile rope which is like absorbing recycled nutrients!

- Scrappy Tadpoles WORKSHOP (across open days)
At the enriching table, follow Kanakoase’s guide on creating a tadpole creature from scrap material! Your tadpole can be added to the rope or kept for yourself.

- Enzymatic T-Shirts WORKSHOP (across open days)
$10 - Stamp or sew on enzyme shapes and abstract enzymatic diagrams led by Judase onto recycled T-shirts + add your own enzyme name ending in ‘ase’! Take your enzymatic shirt!

- Notice, Nurture, Name ENERGISING WORKSHOP (Friday 5:00pm)
A simple but highly nutritional activity of sharing positive thoughts about one another. This energy moves via the conveyance of the rope in a gathering circle in the gallery.

- Enzyme Reading (across open days)
A circular reading about a range of digestive enzyme definitions: leads into poetic conversation starters about how we are being nourished in the visual arts. How can we, as artists, act like enzymes and improve the digestibility of the emerging arts scene?
