Jordan Neal ‘Dysregulated’
29 May - 31 May
"Dysregulated is a series of resin discs preserving the artist's menstrual blood, collected over 12 monthly cycles. The work is displayed in chronological order; each disc is marked with the dates the blood was collected. The collection serves as a documentation of the quantity and quality of menstrual blood the artist shed over one year. The intention of this work was to further the artist's understanding of her own menstrual cycle and create a collection of visual data to represent what an "average" cycle may look like while using the Implant as birth control."
Jordan Neal is an interdisciplinary feminist artist; her practice explores the social, personal and political consequences of the lack of research in women’s health, with a primary focus on menstruation. Through installation, sculpture, painting and text, she examines and subverts cultural norms; her practice invites viewers to reconsider and dismantle the menstrual concealment imperative.
Fresh out of Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2019, Jordan began volunteering at the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre (CBFAC) in 2020. This led to three years of employment in which she produced the fourth iteration of the 40 Under 40 Exhibition & Art Prize, an International Women’s Day exhibition project and assisted with curation throughout the exhibition program. She has also participated in selective professional development programs The Path (2022) and ProjectLAB (2023), as well as a month-long residency resulting in her first solo exhibition at LANTANA Space.
